January 21, 2025 | 3:38 p.m.
The Town of Carthage is currently under a Winter Weather Advisory with the potential for snow.
From the National Weather Service in Raleigh, NC
Low pressure is expected to track from the Gulf of Mexico and into the western Atlantic today into Wednesday. As a result, 1 to 2 inches of snow is expected mainly along and east of US-1 late today through early Wednesday, with a dusting to less than an inch elsewhere. Even in locations where amounts do not meet winter weather advisory criteria, keep in mind that even a light dusting of snow can result in localized slick spots on roads and especially bridges due to very cold air and ground temperatures.
There is the potential snowfall amounts could be higher, 3 or more inches, along and east of I-95. If this occurs, road conditions would be significantly worse.
The extended period of bitterly cold weather is expected through Thursday morning. Daytime highs starting today will be in the upper 20s north to mid 30s south. Early morning low temps the next 3 days will range from the upper single digits in the normally colder locations to mid-teens elsewhere.
We’re keeping our eyes on the potential for a possible late-week weather system that may bring another round of wintry precipitation to portions of our area. Although the latest models have trended away from this concern.
