The NC General Statutes defines bicycles as vehicles that are subject to state traffic laws. Some important safety tips for cyclers from the BikeWalk NC group are you must yield to the traffic already on the road, drive on the right half of the roadway, yield before entering a more important roadway, destination pointing at intersections, and speed positioning between intersections. Wearing an helmet is an integral part of cyclist safety.  The helmet safety institute says that "wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 88 percent." It is important for everyone sharing the road to know the correct rules. By following traffic laws and safety guidelines hopefully injuries along with fatalities can be reduced.
