Annual Salary Range: $57,156 – $81,651
Starting salary dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The Town of Carthage Police Department is seeking an experienced, motivated, and dedicated law enforcement professional to join our team as a Police Sergeant.
As our department enters a new chapter of leadership, we are looking for a Sergeant who will lead by example, mentor fellow officers, promote professionalism and accountability, and strengthen relationships within our community.

Key Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned patrol personnel and coordinate daily patrol operations.
- Provide leadership, training, mentoring, and performance coaching to officers.
- Review incident reports, body camera footage, and departmental activities for accuracy and compliance.
- Coordinate patrol assignments, employee scheduling, leave requests, and training.
- Inspect departmental vehicles, equipment, and weapons to ensure operational readiness.
- Respond to calls for service, investigate incidents, enforce laws, and provide field support.
- Assist with criminal investigations, evidence collection, traffic enforcement, and accident investigations.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and community-oriented policing.
- Ensure compliance with departmental policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Considerable law enforcement experience.
- Completion of 40 hours of supervisory training and specialized training in criminal investigations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must meet North Carolina law enforcement certification requirements.
- Valid North Carolina driver's license.
- Strong communication, decision-making, organizational, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and make effective decisions in high-pressure situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Intermediate Law Enforcement Certification.
- Previous supervisory or field training experience.
- Demonstrated experience in mentoring, coaching, and developing officers.
