Utility Capacity Reservation Policy Now in Effect
The Town of Carthage has implemented the Utility Capacity Reservation Policy established in Section 51.007 of the Town Code. In accordance with the ordinance, this policy becomes effective when the Town's water and wastewater systems reach 75% of their available capacity.
The purpose of the policy is to responsibly manage the Town's remaining water and sewer capacity, ensure adequate service for existing customers, and preserve capacity for public health, safety, and future community needs. The policy reserves a portion of the Town's remaining utility capacity for emergency uses and important community facilities such as schools, medical facilities, and public safety facilities.
For certain larger residential, commercial, and institutional developments, utility capacity requests will be reviewed and approved by the Board of Commissioners in accordance with this Town Code. Utility capacity is not allocated until applicable system development fees are paid.
This policy does not affect existing water or sewer service for current customers. Residents and businesses currently connected to Town utilities will continue to receive service as normal.
