The Town is currently experiencing reduced water levels in Nick’s Creek, the community’s primary drinking water source. As a result, the Town of Carthage is requesting that all residents and businesses voluntarily reduce water use to help protect the Town’s available water supply.
North Carolina is presently under drought conditions, which has led to lower stream flows and slower replenishment of local water sources. While the Town’s water system remains operational and safe, prolonged dry conditions can strain supply if water use is not reduced.
Nick’s Creek is a surface water source that is directly affected by rainfall and groundwater conditions. With less rainfall and higher evaporation, water levels may continue to decline if drought conditions persist. Voluntary conservation now can help:

Town staff will continue to closely monitor water levels, weather conditions, and system demand. If conditions change, additional guidance or restrictions may be issued to ensure a reliable water supply for the community.
