In our Meet the Staff series, we're excited to introduce you to the hardworking individuals who serve Carthage every day. From planning and public works to administration and public safety, each team member plays a vital role in making our town a great place to live, work, and visit. Get to know the staff behind the services and learn more about the people who help shape Carthage!

Name:  Allen Smith

1) What is your job title? Public Works Director. 

2) What does your job entail? Anything with water, sewers, parks and recreation development, streets, really anything having to do with the town's infrastructure, as well as town-owned buildings and grounds maintenance. 

3) What does a day look like for you? Dealing with water and sewer issues, reviewing town infrastructure plans, talking to contractors, posting bid proposals for jobs, managing the water and sewer systems. 

4) What brought you to local government? A good opportunity. Worked at Southern Pines for fifteen years and this was a step up from previous title. 

5) What is your favorite movie?  Jeremiah Johnson. 

6) What is your favorite food? Pizza.
