Behind every great community is a team of dedicated professionals working to keep things running smoothly. In our Meet the Staff series, we're excited to introduce you to the hardworking individuals who serve Carthage every day. From planning and public works to administration and public safety, each team member plays a vital role in making our town a great place to live, work, and visit. Get to know the staff behind the services and learn more about the people who help shape Carthage!

Name:  Emily Yopp

1) What is your job title? Town Manager.

2) What does your job entail?  My job is to make sure the town is operating efficiently, effectively, and within budget. I make sure the Fire, Police, Administrative and Public Works Departments all have what they need to keep our town running. 

3) What does a day look like for you? Every day is different! Some are focused more on meetings, which may be with other government officials, some are day to day activities. Some days a waterline may break, and we are focused on keeping affected citizens informed. Running a town is a 24/7 job and I can sometimes work early mornings and late nights. 

4) What brought you to local government? Chance I suppose. I had always worked in the private sector and was an entrepreneur for many years. After my husband retired from the US Army, we moved to Carthage to put down roots with our family. I decided I wanted to be involved in my community and to use my skills and knowledge to give back to Carthage. I was first hired as the Town Clerk and then later promoted to the Town Manager role. 

5) What is your favorite movie?  Labyrinth.

6) What is your favorite food? Chicken Alfredo.
