Carthage Historical Committee

The Town of Carthage established a Historical Committee in 1982. The purpose of the committee is to collect, preserve and display items and information relative to the history of the town. In accordance with these directives the committee established a Museum to house information relevant to the Town's history. The Carthage Historical Museum is located at 202 Rockingham Street.

The Museum's goal is to preserve the history of the Town and its people. Visitors to the Museum will learn about the schools, businesses and churches of the past and present in Carthage. The committee also has an interest in preserving present day Carthage and has established a Historical District in the town.

Hours of operation of the Museum are each Sunday afternoon from 2:00pm-5:00pm or by appointment at other times. The committee is dedicated not to preserving just buildings but to preserving the history of the people of Carthage.

The committee is looking for new members who are actively willing to participate in meeting the groups objectives and fundraising. Members serve three year terms and meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Carthage Appearance Committee

The Town of Carthage established an Appearance Committee in 2011. The purpose of the committee is to work with town staff, local residents, business and community leaders to seek to improve the appearance of the town.  The committee will undertake fundraising for beautification efforts and downtown revitalization projects, and will recommend specific projects to be undertaken by the town.

The committee and the town have been working hard to improve the appearance of the downtown area with new sidewalks, benches, cigarette caddies and trash cans, as well as fresh coats of paint and area clean up.  The committee along with the business/property owners are working together to continue with additional improvements, participation and awareness.

The committee is looking for new members who are actively willing to assist with these objectives and fundraising. Members serve three year terms and meetings are held on the second Monday of each month.
