The Carthage Police Department is located within the Carthage Municipal Building located at 4396 US Hwy 15-501, in Carthage. The department is staffed with 10 full time officers, an Administrative Assistant and 6 auxiliary officers.
The Carthage Police Department has been committed to community policing and has been presented with several awards:

N.C. Governor's Crime Prevention Award for Excellence in Community Oriented Policing 1996, 1997, 1999.

N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Program Excellence Award for participation in the Governor's Highway Safety Initiative.

County Coordinator for the N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Programs 'Click It or Ticket' and 'Booze It & Lose It' campaigns for years 2001 through 2007.

N.C. Governor's Highway Safety Region 7 Law Enforcement Liaison (2007-2008) covering the following 9 counties: Moore, Scotland, Anson, Hoke, Richmond, Union, Mecklenburg, Gaston and Cleveland.
