Assistant Public Services Director
Performs difficult technical and supervisory work, planning, organizing and
directing the work of crews in construction, repair, replacement and
installation of streets, water distribution system, wastewater collection
system, solid waste collection, and other public works and utilities services
for the Town. Requires considerable supervisory, interpersonal, technical and
administrative skills. Subject to work inside/outside environments, extreme
heat/cold, work hazards (loud noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts,
oils/grease, chemical exposure, fumes, odors, poor ventilation). Subject to
after-hour emergency standby and call-back service. Must exercise judgement and
initiative. Work performed under general supervision of Public Services
Director, is reviewed for achievement of goals, conformance to established
standards, department productivity/effectiveness, and general community
acceptance. Work with citizens on a wide variety of requests, issues,
complaints and needs; meets with citizens, developers, property owners,
engineers, etc. Must establish and maintain effective working relationships
with supervisors, peers, subordinates and the general public, and emphasize
teamwork and customer service.
Requirements: Must be able to perform the basic life functions of
climbing, balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting,
fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing. Must be able to perform heavy work
exerting up to 100lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 50lbs of force
frequently, and/or up to 20lbs of force constantly to move objects. Must
possess visual acuity necessary to read maps and diagrams, to operate a
vehicle, to read and prepare reports including the analysis of data figures,
and to inspect the thoroughness of the work performed.
Experience: College graduate with A.S. degree in construction or
environmental technology or related field and supervisory experience in water
distribution systems, wastewater collections and/or street maintenance, storm
water system maintenance and repair; or an equivalent combination education/experience.
Requirements: Possession of valid NC commercial driver’s license; Water
Distribution A (or ability to obtain in 1 year); Wastewater Collections II
Certification (or ability to obtain in 18 months); Public Pesticide Operator
License (or ability to obtain within 1 year).
This is a field working position.
Starting salary: D.O.Q.
Salary Range: $39,431.00-$59,147.00
