-Since 1990, Carthage has grown in population by more than 140 percent, to a current population of 2,114, making it fastest growing town in the Sandhills Region, which includes the famous resorts of Pinehurst and Southern Pines, and placing Carthage among the 20 fastest growing municipalities in North Carolina. Carthage businesses serve a surrounding community of more than 10,000 residents, including the neighboring retirement community of Whispering Pines. Carthage, as well as the surrounding area, continues to grow, with new subdivisions and developments currently being built. Little River Farm, a golf course community on the southern edge of Carthage, offers golf packages, rental condominiums and a beautiful club house. The club house includes a bar, restaurant and banquet facilities that can accommodate 300 people. Beautiful home sites are available as well.
-Carthage traffic counts have been increasing in recent years, due to Carthage's location along a major east-west route (Highway 24-27) and north-south route (15-501). Plans are being developed with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for four lane access to Carthage along these routes.
-Carthage is located within the Union Pines High School, New Century Middle School, and split between the Carthage Elementary and Sandhills Farm Life Elementary School districts. All these schools have received high marks in recent years, with Sandhills Farm Life being one of two Schools of Excellence in Moore County, and Carthage Elementary and New Century being among six Schools of Distinction in Moore County.
-Carthage has a low crime rate and boasts an active Police Department and community watch program. The Town's Police Department has an excellent ratio of officers to citizens, and has won several State-wide awards including the Governor's Award for Excellence in Community Policing and three consecutive Crime Prevention Awards for small agencies. The per capita crime rate has decreased dramatically over the past three years, and over 90 percent of all reported crimes are solved.
-Carthage boasts an excellent Fire Department with modern fire fighting equipment.
The Town maintains an ISO rating of 6, an excellent rating for a volunteer department, which allows for lower insurance costs for business and property owners.
-The Carthage Council of the Chamber of Commerce is active in promoting local business.
-The Town of Carthage provides a full range of services to Town residents and businesses. A $2.5 million grant was been received by the Town to construct a new water treatment plant, doubling the existing capacity, which will allow for 20 years of growth. Water capacity will not be an issue for your business, with a modern water treatment facility providing some of the finest water around. Sewer capacity is not a problem either, with the Town connected to the Moore County Wastewater Treatment Plant.
